We love celebrating awesome people going the extra mile behind the scenes, and this story is a great example.

Johno (affectionately known as ‘Big John’) has been a driver with Go Bus Transport Ltd for over ten years.

Known for his dry sense of humour, Johno is a big favourite with many of our regular bus passengers. He’s always looking out for his passengers, and recently Johno noticed that a regular passenger sitting at a bus stop didn’t look well, so he hopped off his bus and went to check on her. After talking to her for a couple of minutes he called an ambulance and waited with her until it arrived. On his way back into town still on the bus, he stopped off at the home where he knew the woman lived and told her family she’d been taken to hospital.

The woman’s family posted a message of thanks to Johno for his act of kindness, and the Transport Coordinator at the Regional Council, Megan Welsby, presented Johno with an ‘Extra Mile’ certificate. These certificates are awarded to bus drivers who go above and beyond their duties to assist their passengers and other road users.

A big tu meke and thank you to Big John!
