Tickets and Fares

You can find information on fares, zones and smartcards here. Our fares are based on how many zones you travel through, so check the zone table below and then refer to the fare table to see the relevant fare. There are concessions for children, students and seniors.

Here are the fares for goBay bus journeys. The correct fare is appreciated as change may not be available for large denomination notes.

Please check your ticket before moving away from the driver. The driver cannot correct a transaction once another fare has been processed.


The child (5-15) fare is extended to students with ID. High School Student ID required for High School students not wearing school uniform. To be eligible for a concession fare passengers must show the driver a valid Community Services card, Tertiary Student / High School Student ID, or SuperGold card. Passengers without one of these forms of ID will be charged an adult fare (this does not apply to children or High School students wearing school uniform).

SuperGold Cards

SuperGold cardholders travel free between 9am and 3pm on weekdays and anytime on weekend/public holiday services.

Zone Description
Zone 1 Napier, Tamatea, Taradale, Bay View, EIT or Clive is a one-zone trip
Hastings, Havelock North, Flaxmere, EIT or Clive is a one-zone trip.
Zone 2 Napier, Bay View, Tamatea, Taradale (before EIT) to Hastings, Havelock North or Flaxmere is a two-zone trip.
Hastings, Havelock North, Flaxmere to Taradale (after EIT), Tamatea, Bay View or Napier is a two-zone trip.

Smartcard use on busIf you purchase a goBay smartcard  you can save around 20% on bus fares. It is also a lot easier than trying to find the right change for the bus each time.

goBay smartcards can be purchased from any goBay bus driver for $7 and topped up with $10 or more pre-paid travel, cash only.

Smartcards can also be purchased from Hawke’s Bay Regional Council, 159 Dalton Street for $27, $37, $47 or $57(this includes the $7 card fee and the remainder in pre-paid travel); or from Hastings Library for $27.00
